Mercedes, No Team Orders Please!

The 2016 Austrian Grand Prix was the best advertisement for Formula 1 – wheel to wheel action, tyre strategy and a fair share of controversy! Are Mercedes trying to protect Nico Rosberg by blaming the issue on brake-by-wire? As far as we know, brake-by-wire does not affect the steering wheel! And why were Mercedes hell-bent on making Hamilton lose by strategy or slower pitstops? Every time the pressure piles on, Rosberg eventually succumbs. Definitely not the mental make-up of a champion – does Rosberg deserve to be World Champion?

While Mercedes contemplates team orders, we tell you why it’s a terrible idea. In an era of ‘boring’ domination, the only way to generate positive headlines is by letting their drivers race! If Mercedes were to be inspired by Red Bull Racing, they would have demoted Rosberg to Manor and promoted Pascal Wehrlein in his place – a gift for his resilient P10 too! Pirelli gifted Sebastian Vettel a tyre blowout for his birthday. Sure he would have been happier blowing out candles instead. Kimi Raikkonen had some unexpected champagne, funny that he’s having his second wedding before his second world championship. Max Verstappen continues to be everyone’s favourite (ours too!) sweeping away the Driver of the Day awards.

Jenson Button’s P6 would’ve seemed like victory to Mclaren-Honda. The Japanese manufacturer is considering investing in a Formula E program. Is this to hide from their Formula 1 miseries? We tell you more.

Back-to-back races means that the British Grand Prix is coming up this weekend! Is anyone willing to bet against Lewis Hamilton at his home race? We aren’t – Hammer Time awaits, we say! Our prediction? Since Formula 1 loves revenge, Nico Rosberg will be booed on the podium – if he makes it there, that is.

Tune in!

  • I sometimes go through your blog. It is chatpatte like most Indian news channels, but you have fair record of going against everyone in F1 if they’ve done questionable things. You should look to expand your follower base and commentator base.
India can have a huge impact in F1, which is currently being lead by British interests. Hamilton is nowhere near the legends we have seen before in F1, but the British are promoting him like he’s the best ever. Doesn’t this bore you or make you cringe? Let’s increase Indian viewership in F1, so that we have an even voice in how this sport is run. Anyone who is objective will rightly concur that F1 is heading into a very wrong direction with the media rights holder openly advocating a certain driver just because he has more marketability among idiots around the world who follow a common fad, as compared to genuine F1 fans.
Ecclestone has to go. FIA has to be reordered, and their TV rights granting previleges should be made global with a global voice, not a partisan one-country voice that is igniting viewer opinion all around the world. You are biggest democracy. You’ve already hosted 2 races in the F1 calender. It’s time to take full advantage of your volume and take this sport in the right direction.
