Bring Juan Pablo Montoya Back To Formula 1

THE INSIDE LINE F1 PODCAST IS HOSTED BY MITHILA MEHTA AND KUNAL SHAH. THIS FORMULA ONE PODCAST OFFERS A UNIQUE HUMOUROUS VIEW ON THE SPORT.

This is Formula 1‘s busiest ‘off-season’ yet! From the speculation surrounding Nico Rosberg’s replacement to Mercedes finally announcing Valtteri Bottas, the sale of Formula 1 and unexpected ‘dismissal’ of Bernie Ecclestone, the return of Ross Brawn and finally the always-funny ‘juan’ jokes, we’ve had an eventful time yet.

The off-season is also when Formula 1 action is missed the most – even though fans (me included!) might claim that a typical Formula 1 weekend usually lacks action. However, we had the Race of Champions entertain us last weekend. Juan Pablo Montoya won the Race of Champions Champion title on debut whereas Sebastian Vettel single-handedly won Team Germany the Race of Champions Nations Cup for the 7th time!

Maybe there’s a clue or two for Ferrari from the Race of Champions. Vettel looked cool, calm and seemed joyful – basically an avatar that was last seen during his Red Bull Racing days. Gladly, there’s no talent lost! As for Juan Pablo Montoya, it would be awesome to bring him back too. After all, reunions aren’t unknown to Formula 1. (Alonso-Mclaren, Raikkonen-Ferrari and now Massa-Williams!)

Could Formula 1 go the Race of Champions way though? In this week’s episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast, we tell you why it won’t. We also tell you why Max Verstappen might not participate in the ROC ever. Lastly (from the ROC), Wehrlein’s spectacular crash – is Sauber re-looking at their crash budget? And we’re desperately seeking to know the fan who sat next to Wehrlein during the crash. He (or she!) was on the phone through the entire crash! Check out this photo that was uploaded on our Facebook page.

Though seems unlikely, in case Wehrlein ends up missing a few Formula 1 races thanks to the crash, would Sauber give Pastor Maldonado and his money a last minute nod? Or will they recall Felipe Nasr in a year that will be remembered as ‘the return of the Felipe!’. (F1 Misses The Legend Of Pastor Maldonado)

As for Maldonado, do the Indy Car team owners not watch Formula 1? Or is Indy Car excited to market Maldonado as a ‘former Formula 1 driver, 1-time Grand Prix winner and 49192-times crasher’? If nothing, ‘Has Maldonado Crashed Today?’ will be back in business!

Formula 1’s sold and Bernie Ecclestone has been replaced. While we’re optimistic about the future, we’re also a tad bit sad to see the father (or now the grandfather!) of Formula 1 go in this unceremonious manner. But the question is – would he have stepped down ever? Even if everyone threw him a grand farewell ceremony? Tune in!
